From Latin spectacŭlum, a show is a function or public fun which takes place in a space where the public congregates to witness it. The usual thing is that the shows take place in theaters , stadiums , circuses or similar enclosures. For example: “Yesterday I went to see a magic show that fascinated me”, “Marcos invited me to a show at the center theater”, “I want to vacation in a city that has a good offer of shows”, “My son, who is an actor, was hired for an itinerant show that will tour several neighborhoods”.
The characteristics of the shows are very varied. Theater displays, concerts , acrobatics and dance These are some of the disciplines that can be a show.
However, there are many other activities that are also considered as spectacle and that bring together a multitude of people to enjoy them. Specifically, these are some of the most significant:
• Musical. Dance, theater and music become the three main elements that shape this type of entertainment that in recent years has achieved significant growth thanks to high quality works such as "Los Miserables" or "The Lion King". In the United States, for example, the Broadway area in Manhattan is considered one of the most significant when it comes to enjoying the best shows of this type.
• Movie. The screening of a film is also considered one of the most interesting and favorite alternatives of the public when it comes to entertaining.
• Television show. Late-night or realities are two of the small screen spaces that have become great shows that you can enjoy from the sofa at home.
Sports matches are also considered as shows today. In this sense, the ones that are most attributed to that adjective are football and basketball competitions, as the players manage to entertain the public with their mastery of the ball, thus giving rise to truly unrepeatable moves and moments.
It should also be stressed that for some people bullfights would also have the qualification of shows, but for others they are not because they consider them a murderous act.
The shows, on the other hand, usually take place on a stage (spaces with an elevated platform so that people can see artists more easily), although it is not an essential condition. Some shows are free and others invite the public to collaborate with the amount they want, although most of the shows stipulate a fixed value at the entrance.
The concept is also used to name the set of professional activities and protagonists linked to this public fun . In this sense we can speak in a generic sense of “Show world” Or the “Entertainment industry”.
Show, finally, is the action that causes scandal, controversy or strangeness : “A man gave a show by protesting naked before the municipal authorities”, "The intervention of the comedian in the debate was a real spectacle that aroused laughter among those present".
